Helen Ross, M.D. has practiced for many years in private practice. She was part of a thriving six office practice in the Tidewater Virginia area, with offices in Newport News, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, and a private dermatology practice most recently in Arizona.
Previously, she resided in New York City where she divided her time between two different humanitarian agencies, both of which provide multi-specialty medical, psychiatric and social services to the community. Dr. Ross provided dermatology care to both of these agencies, seeing approximately 15-25 patients per day, depending on the site. One agency provided full services to adults and children with a variety of disabilities. Her expertise included working with individuals with Down Syndrome and autism with varying degrees of mental disability, ADHD/ADD, pervasive developmental disorders, cerebral palsy, xeroderma pigmentosa, tuberous sclerosis and various other rare and not so rare syndromes. Her excellent education and training at Barnes/Jewish Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, especially in the area of pediatric dermatology, prepared her thoroughly for such an important solo practice. Dr. Ross served as the itinerant dermatologist, traveling to four of the five NYC boroughs every day, and attending two different clinics every Monday.
Dr. Ross also worked as the only dermatologist in a different community health setting, serving a diverse underserved population. She rotated among the three different clinics in uptown, midtown and lower east side of NYC. Typical individuals served included the uninsured, underinsured, the elderly, immigrants and the homeless, as well as private practice type clientele.
Dr. Ross’ style of practice is from an holistic paradigm with a focus of course on dermatology, but inclusive of nutrition, holistic/alternative and science-based medicine, including lifestyle modifications, appropriate supplements and counseling. She completed a one year nutrition course in NYC through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Other personal and professional interests include homeopathy, holistic beauty products, (she is currently working on her own hemp-based custom line of personal care products and hemp-based yoga clothing line), and cosmetic services that focus on enhancing one’s inner, as well as outer, beauty. Dr. Ross is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, is board-certified in dermatology, and served on the Melanoma Committee 2004-2008. Dr. Ross has passed both the written and oral exam in antiaging medicine and is board certified through the American Board of Anti-aging Medicine.
